Many people are entirely unaware of just how much the county government services make their lives a bit easier. For instance, the Fairfax County, Virginia, government offices include such services as the Health Department, the Human Rights Commission, Planning and Zoning, the Park Authority, Public Works and Environmental Services, Retirement Systems, the Sheriff’s office, Transportation, Water Authority, Emergency Services, the County Executive’s Office, and the Commonwealth’s Attorney, just to name a very few.
The Health Department is in place to regulate health concerns in the county, as well as to offer education on heath issues such as nutrition, illness prevention, immunizations, and care for the ill. The general public may receive information on flu epidemics, food safety, recalls on food and other products, and restaurant cleanliness scores.
Planning and Zoning helps to ensure that businesses and residences can coincide peacefully, by regulating noises, traffic, and building codes. Before any business can open, or before any citizen can add an extension to his or her house, the Planning and Zoning committee must be consulted and give permission.
The Park Authority is in place to keep parks and nature conservatories maintained and safe for the general public. This organization exists to protect park-goers from any threats, as well as to keep the parks free of debris and litter. The beautiful parks and playgrounds of Fairfax County are meant to be enjoyed by all, so any concerns should be immediately directed to the Park Authority.
The Public Works and Environmental Services supervise any maintenance in the county. The men and women of this organization work hard to keep the roads safe, the water lines maintained, and the trash collection on schedule. If there is a maintenance issue anywhere in the county, the Public Works and Environmental Services office is where to direct those requests.
The Transportation Department is an extremely important office, for they are responsible for keeping all of the public transportation in the county running safely and efficiently. Routes are planned, buses and trains maintained, and the low prices all made possible by this particular agency. For questions and concerns regarding public transportation, please contact the Transportation office.
Emergency Services are comprised of police, fire, and rescue teams. These teams are working around the clock to keep the citizens of Fairfax County safe. The budgeting for these services, as well as the organization, is all planned in the Emergency Services office.
